Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (i.e. alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (i.e. gambling, sex, shopping) that is pleasurable but the continued use/act of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary life responsibilities such as work, relationships, or health.
Neurofeedback is a therapy that allows the client to involuntary change their brain wave patterns. The ability to change brainwave patterns is called neuroplascity and some of the effects can be relaxation and stress reduction.
Neurofeedback works with the neurotransmitters in the brain and delivers a more alternative treatment to the brain for the person who suffers from addiction. The neurotransmitters are what allow the neurons to fire the way they should. We are able to help the person who suffers with addiction and balance the brain waves so that their urges to use are reduced.
Addiction patterns in the brain can vary and are quite complex, as is the treatment. At the Brain and Wellness Center, we support a holistic approach to treating addiction that includes brain mapping, recommendations for counseling, 12 step programs, nutritional analysis, alternative treatments for medical issues, modalities to reduce stress and of course, sober living. We are an outpatient facility and therefore support and empower our clients to understand and treat their addiction in a natural/alternative way.
